North American Young Rider Championships

The Championships are the premier equestrian event in North America for riders age 14-21. Run in a format similar to the Olympic Games, the Championships feature riders competing for team and individual Medals in the three Olympic disciplines of show jumping, dressage and eventing, as well as the western discipline of reining, which has been added to the schedule this year.

Many of North America’s best equestrians got their start at the NAJYRC including Olympic medalists Greg Best, Karen Lende O'Connor, Chris Kappler and McLain Ward, as well as Alison Firestone, Nicole Shahinian Simpson, Ray Texel, Chris Pratt, Frankie Chesler, Lisa Carlsen Lubitz, Harold Chopping, Martina Pracht, Kathleen Raine, Heather Mason, David Wilson, Gwyneth MacPherson, Tiffani Loudon, Buck Davidson, Abigail Lufkin, Missy Ransehousen, Mara DePuy, Molly Bliss, and Julie Gomena.

The NAJYRC operates under the rules of the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI), the international governing body for equestrian sport. It is the only FEI championship held annually in this country. This year’s competition takes place July 29-August 3 at The Colorado Horse Park in Parker, Colorado.

Nellie Gail resident, Christine Stevenson and her horse, Charlie, will be competing at this event for the national title in dressage. She will leave for Colorado on Monday as a member of the North American Young Rider Team from the western US. Nellie Gail friends and supporters of Christine's got together last Saturday for send off party. Christine trains at the Nellie Gail Equestrian Center with Jan Curtis.

Good Luck, Christine and Charlie!
